USI softball coaches named Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year by NFCA

DENVER, Colo.—University of Southern Indiana Softball Head Coach Sue Kunkle and her staff have been named the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) Friday afternoon.

Kunkle has guided the No. 10 Screaming Eagles to a program-record 49 wins, their third NCAA II Midwest Region title and third appearance in the NCAA II Softball Championship. Additionally, USI won the GLVC regular-season and GLVC Tournament titles during the 2022 season.

The award marks the third time USI Softball has garnered Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Assistant Coach MacKenzi Dorsam also helped USI’s coaching staff earn the honor in 2017 and 2018 and was part of USI’s National Coaching Staff of the Year award in 2018.

USI’s coaching staff also consists of Graduate Assistant Coach Kelcey Carrasco and Volunteer Assistant Coach Emily Goodin.

The Eagles (49-12) return to action today at 5 p.m. (CDT) when they take on top-ranked University of Texas at Tyler in the elimination bracket. USI needs a win today, another Saturday and two on Sunday to advance to the best-of-three national championship series May 30.
